Osher Lifelong Learning Institute Kicks Off New Semester With Open House on Aug. 6

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 5, 2014) -- The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), which provides campus and community-based educational opportutnies for Kentuckians over age 50, will kick off the upcoming semester with an Open House on Wednesday, Aug. 6 for adults who love learning for the joy of it.  The Open House is from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the gymnasium of Tates Creek Christian Church, at 3150 Tates Creek Road in Lexington. Refreshments and door prizes will be offered. 

This year UK is celebrating 50 years of lifelong learning in the Commonwealth, and attendees at the Open House will glimpse why more than more than 1,300 dynamic adult learners in Lexington participate in OLLI programs to share their ideas, interests and passion for learning.  The Open House will preview more than 50 courses, shared interest groups, Donovan Forum Presentations, and more that will be offered in Lexington during the Fall 2014 semester. Attendees can also chat with instructors and learn about upcoming speakers, concerts, art exhibits and social events. 

There are many ways to get involved with OLLI. Sign up for a Fall course such as Arts and Sciences in Vedic and Modern India; Geology Rocks! The Musical?; Around the World in Eight Days; or Colonial American History From 1685-1763. Broaden your horizaons with a Spanish or Shakesperian acting class, or keep your body strong and flexible with a yoga class. You could also get involved with our 80-member chorus, sign up to serve as a mentor for Fayette County Public Schools, or dabble in the visual arts.

Annual membership is $25. Course fees vary, but most are $20 for the semester. For more information please contact the OLLI Office at 859-257-2656. Course catalogs will be available at Open House; registrations may be mailed upon receipt.  Online course registration will “go live” the day after the Open House at 9 a.m. on Aug. 7.
