Party Gras Brings Cajun Culture During Mardi Gras

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 4, 2014) — There’s no Mardi Gras like Party Gras! Celebrate Fat Tuesday with music from Dwayne Dopsie and the Zydeco Hellraisers, Cajun food, masks, and fun at 6 p.m. today, Tuesday, March 4,  in the Student Center Ballroom. The event, sponsored by the Student Activities Board Concerts Committee, is free and open to the public.

Louisiana native Dwayne Dopsie has been recognized as an innovative Zydeco musician, “infusing blues, soul and funk with a driving rub-board rhythm.” Inspired by his father Rockin’ Dopsie Sr., Dopsie has played the accordion since age 7 and began performing with his band at age 19. He has described Zydeco as his passion, and the band released their album “Been Good to You” in October 2012. The event will also feature Mardi Gras mask crafting and a photo booth.

“Party Gras is a fantastic way to experience Cajun culture, especially with the Zydeco band and Cajun food,” said Adam Carrico, SAB director of concerts. “The event will also bring fun and entertainment during the busy midterm season.”
