Preview, Comment on Design of New Residence Halls at Open House Oct. 16

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 15, 2013) ― The sights and sounds of residence hall construction continue throughout the University of Kentucky campus as five new halls are scheduled to open Fall 2014.  Now the campus community can get a preview of those buildings in a special open house from 1 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, in the lobby of Central Hall 1 (Central Hall building nearest to William T. Young Library).

UK students, faculty and staff are invited to view the designs of Champions Court 1 and 2, Haggin Hall, and Woodland Glen 1 and 2.  The design team will discuss the features of the buildings and rooms and take comments and questions about the designs.

"This is our opportunity to enhance the interior design aspects of student engagement, and solicit feedback from students during the presentations," said Penny Cox, director for housing project implementation and new strategies.

Visitors to the open house will have the opportunity to win several door prizes including Beats headphones and an iPad mini.

UK has partnered with EdR, one of the nation’s largest developers, owners and managers of collegiate housing, to replace several campus residence halls and manage the new buildings.  The multi-phase housing revitalization is expected to result in some 9,000 beds on campus within the next five years.
