Public Health Appoints New Associate Dean

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 22, 2013) — The University of Kentucky College of Public Health has appointed Kathryn M. Cardarelli as associate dean for admissions and student affairs and associate professor in the Department of Health Behavior.

"The College of Public Health is poised to rise to the top of schools of public health, and I look forward to working with our students as they matriculate and prepare for professional opportunities,” Cardarelli said.

Previously, Cardarelli served as director of the Center for Community Health and associate professor of epidemiology at the University of North Texas Health Science Center. Cardarelli’s research focuses on community-based approaches to improving health equity. She is funded by NIH, CDC, and the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas.

Cardarelli completed her doctorate in epidemiology from the University of Texas-Houston School of Public Health, with an emphasis in social epidemiology and health disparities research, and completed a two-year Presidential Management Fellowship with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, focusing on access to health care issues for vulnerable populations with the Health Resources and Services Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
