Ring in March with 'Celtic Nights'

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 25, 2013) — Direct from Ireland, "Celtic Nights: Journey of Hope," will be final concert in the 2012-13 Singletary Signature Series. Featuring beautiful ballads, striking choreography and a compelling storyline, "Celtic Nights" transports audiences to the Emerald Isle. The concert will take the stage 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 2, in the University of Kentucky Singletary Center for the Arts Concert Hall.

"Celtic Nights" is a two-hour show which features both the finest male and female voices of the Celtic world, showcased against a thundering backdrop of expert dancing and musicianship. In the show, six of Ireland’s most prominent vocal talents are complimented by six of its most accomplished step dancers, creating an exhilarating picture of a proud people who dared to dream big and doggedly carved out a home in the New World.

The influence of the old music on what became American sounds – whether it is bluegrass, Appalachian, country and western or the great songs and ballads from Shenandoah to the songs of the American Civil War – will be part of the "Celtic Night" experience. Many old favorites, such as "Danny Boy," "Isle of Hope," "Galway Bay" and "Isle of Innisfree" will be performed.

Tickets for "Celtic Nights" are on sale now and prices range from $45 to $25 depending on seat location. There is a student ticket price of $15 with a valid student ID. A transaction fee will be added upon purchase. A part of the UK College of Fine Arts, the Singletary Center for the Arts presents and hosts around 400 artistic, cultural and educational events annually for the university community, Lexington community and the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
