Rock the Dot Needs Performers

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 14, 2012) — The Violence Intervention and Prevention (VIP) Center will hold its 4th annual Rock the Dot Variety Show at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15.

Held in the Cats Den of the Student Center, the event features individual or group acts. Some will sing, some will read poetry, others might juggle. Whatever the talent, everyone in the campus community is encouraged to register.

To celebrate the VIP’s message on campus, performers must include the Green Dot in some form whether this be verbal or non-verbal. Prizes will be awarded to the best performances of the night.

UK’s Green Dot initiative is built on the premise that a safe campus is everyone’s responsibility. As on every college campus, violence against women — including sexual assault, physical assault and stalking — is an issue that impacts the entire campus community. No single department nor single policy can reduce this risk and eliminate violence against women. Green Dot is based on the premise that the only way to create meaningful and lasting change is for each individual to do his or her part. A “Green Dot” symbolizes a single moment in time that can be used to support victims of violence and increase campus safety for all its members. Through words, choices and actions in any given moment — each individual can make a difference.

To be included as one of the performances in the Rock the Dot show, applicants are encouraged to register online by sending an email to the vipcenter@uky.edu. Volunteer opportunities are also available. For any further inquiries, call (859) 257-3189.
