SAB Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month With !Baila!

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 23, 2014) — The University of Kentucky Student Activities Board is celebrating Hispanic Heritage month with the event !Baila! at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, in the Student Center Grand Ballroom. The Multicultural Affairs Committee is bringing The Salsa Center for a night of free dance lessons open to the entire UK campus.

Baila means “dance” in Spanish and students will have the opportunity to learn several dances originating from various Latin American countries at this event, as well as learn about the culture. The two-hour workshop will be accompanied by music, food and a photo booth for students to document their night in a fun, creative way.

“Students will have the chance to learn several dances such as salsa and cumbia, which are very important to the Latin American culture,” said Kristyn Cherry, director of multicultural affairs. “The event is open to all UK students and provides a fun atmosphere through dancing, food and a photo booth to educate and engage students.”

The Salsa Center is located in Lexington off of New Circle Road. They are very involved with the surrounding community and have even worked with UK in the past. They taught a small salsa workshop in the Center for Student Involvement for Alternative Service Breaks in 2013.
