SAB Ends 72 Years in Student Center With Record Programming Year

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 5, 2015)  The Student Activities Board achieved one of its most successful academic years of programming in 2014-15, all thanks to the UK community’s support. SAB programmed 65 events at which attendance collectively reached nearly 31,000 students, faculty, staff and community members. The organization also achieved 15 event partnerships and 16 academic connections through the fall and spring semesters, and had 4 students present at regional or national conferences.

SAB’s incoming President Olivia Senter is confident that the organization will maintain its programming efforts despite the organization’s move to Blazer Hall. The displacement is caused by the Student Center’s renovation and expansion, and SAB will operate out of the temporary offices for approximately two and half years.

“Our campus is very dynamic, and the changes we’re experiencing have pushed us to be even more innovative while remaining true to our core values of teamwork, enrichment, diversity and stewardship,” Senter said. “Our Board of Directors has already been hard at work planning our fall semester events, and our market research data has allowed us to plan for what students want to see.”

Senter said students are encouraged to visit the new SAB office at 365 Blazer Hall in mid-May, when the temporary offices will open, to offer programming ideas and to learn more about getting involved with the organization.

A total of 76 students led the efforts for the organization, which uses its four core values — teamwork, enrichment, diversity and stewardship  to guide its programming, along with market research. SAB is one of few campus programming organizations in the United States to have a market research committee that actively seeks to collect data through surveys and focus groups.

“We’ve had an exciting and innovative year of enriching, entertaining and educational programs,” Jacob Ewing, former SAB president, said. “Our directors and committee chairs are incredibly dedicated to serving the UK community, and their commitment to SAB’s core values is commendable. We could not have had a better year to end our 72 years in the historic Student Center.”
