SAB Writers' Series Features Tania James

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 27, 2012) — The James Baker Hall Writer Series invites students to join in creative readings alongside Kentucky authors. The open mic for students will begin at 6 p.m. tonight, Tuesday, March 27, in the Student Center's Center Theater followed by a reading and conversation with Tania James. This is a free event sponsored by the Student Activities Board.

Author of "Atlas of Unknowns," James' Bluegrass roots are in Louisville. She graduated from Harvard University in 2003 and received a Mastersof Fine Arts in fiction from Columbia University’s School of the Arts in 2006. Her work’s been featured in One Story magazine, Elle India, and The Louisville Courier Journal. James currently teaches creative writing at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

“It’s a facet of creativity that we haven’t explored yet and it appreciates something unique,” said Chris Goodale, president of SAB. “It’s a great series that often gets overlooked for those who are into humanities and the arts.”

The James Baker Hall Writer Series honors the memory of James Baker Hall and his legacy as a Kentucky poet, artist and mentor. The series highlights Kentucky writers' work and Bluegrass roots. Each event includes free refreshments and book sales provided through the UK Bookstore.
