Scholarships Give Students Opportunity to "see blue."

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 4, 2013) — For UK students, earning a scholarship means one thing: opportunity.

Watch the video to discover how important scholarships are to UK students.

Future wildcats who want to take advantage of the opportunities scholarships bring need to finish their applications!  The deadline to apply for competitive scholarships is Tuesday, Jan. 15.

Students who have a 31 or higher ACT score or 1360 or above SAT score (writing portion not included) and a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.50 are encouraged to apply for competitive scholarships.

In addition to GPA and test scores, officials also look at the strength and rigor of students' high school coursework, extracurricular activities, and leadership positions.

The university's top scholarship, the Singletary Scholarship, will provide full tuition for four years (in-state or out-of-state), room and board, a $1,500 stipend each year, a one-time $2,000 stipend to use for Education Abroad programs and an iPad.

In addition, UK will offer Presidential Scholarships, which cover full tuition for four years (in-state or out-of-state).

This year, incoming freshmen apply for admission, competitive scholarships and the Honors Program in one application.

To apply for scholarships, students must complete and submit the competitive academic scholarship section of the Undergraduate Admission application by Jan. 15, 2013. Students applying for competitive scholarships must also have qualifying test scores and a high school transcript indicating a qualifying cumulative GPA on file with the Office of Undergraduate Admission by Jan. 15, 2013.

There are also automatic scholarships awarded to incoming freshmen.  For fall 2013, the Flagship and Provost Scholarships are automatically awarded to students with qualifying scores based on their admission application and information. However, those students must be admitted and have their qualifying scores sent to UK by March 1.

In addition to these competitive and automatic scholarships, UK offers a variety of other scholarships for prospective students including diversity, departmental, and program scholarships.  A special scholarship database website allows students to explore all of the opportunities available with one easy search.

Students should pay careful attention to the deadlines for these awards, as many of them share the Jan. 15 deadline.   Click here to find out more information about all academic scholarships.

Prospective transfer students have until June 1, 2013, to turn in their scholarship applications and Aug. 1, 2013, to apply for admission.
