"see tomorrow." Speaker Series: A National Higher Ed Expert Comes to Campus

After an extremely successful kickoff to the "see tomorrow Speaker Series" led by UK educational policy professor John Thelin, I'm very excited to welcome the next expert who will speak to our community. David Attis, a national expert who advises institutions across the country, will deliver two presentations on Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. in Room 206 of the Student Center.

David Attis is a practice manager with the Education Advisory Board (EAB), a national consultancy that works with colleges and universities across the country. Before joining the EAB, he served as senior director of policy studies at the Council on Competitiveness, a non-partisan organization of university presidents, labor leaders and CEOs dedicated to increasing the country's economic competitiveness through innovation.

Dr. Attis will discuss research in American higher education at 9 a.m., and major trends in education at 3 p.m., both times in Room 206 of the Student Center.

I had the pleasure of hearing Dr. Attis speak just a few months ago, at the October Board of Trustees retreat where he gave a presentation on trends in American higher education. I look forward to hearing his insight and expertise a second and third time today.

This speaker series is a wonderful opportunity for our community to stay informed and engaged in the Strategic Plan-- a critical process for our institution. Successful Strategic Plans are living documents, and this series is a key component of that effort -- an ongoing initiative designed to include our entire campus in the conversation about UK's future.

Currently six work groups, comprised of more than 100 faculty, staff and students, are working on the development of the plan, which will be taken to the Board of Trustees in June.

The University Senate and Office of the Provost are co-sponsoring the speaker series.

I hope you can make one or both of the sessions. If not, a podcast of both sessions will be available at:
