Showcasing Student Art

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 24, 2015) — The Student Activities Board's Cultural Arts Committee presents the Young Artists Exhibit at a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, in the Rasdall Gallery of the Student Center in order to encourage University of Kentucky students to present their work in a professional gallery.

Portfolios and applications were available on the SAB website, www.uksab.org, and were due earlier this month. The students whose artwork will be presented at the gallery reception will be decided two weeks prior to the event.

“Cultural Arts sought to give student artists an opportunity to display their work in a professional setting, especially before the Rasdall Gallery will be put out of use at the end of the semester," SAB Director of Cultural Arts Taylor Hamilton said. "The artists selected to display their work are finalists from the Young Artists Competition that ended earlier this month. They are all very talented individuals, however only a few will be awarded scholarships at the end of the reception. What's more, the most skilled among them will be determined by their peers. So make sure to tell your friends and fellow students to come out to vote for their favorite student artist!”

At the reception, there will be a two-tiered voting system. Three winners will be chosen, one by the judges and two by attendees of the event via text-in poll. The panel of  judges consist of local artists and gallery owners. Each of the winners will be announced at the end of the reception and will receive a $750 scholarship to Kennedy’s Art Store.

SAB brings more than 100 entertaining, educational and enriching programs that are reflective of contemporary issues and trends to the University of Kentucky annually. These programs are designed to enhance the college experience for students, faculty, staff and the greater Lexington community.
