SIGI3 Gets Students on Future Career Path

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 26, 2013) — Through the James W. Stuckert Career Center, all full-time University of Kentucky students have free, unlimited access to a myriad of resources to help them choose a career path that is right for them. One of these services, SIGI3, the third generation system of integrated guidance and information testing system produced by the Educational Testing Service, helps students and other job seekers create a career plan that’s right for them.

"Starting the second semester as a sophomore in college and still not knowing what major to pursue definitely made school very stressful and complicated," said sophomore Erin Zavalza. "However, once I visited the Stuckert Career Center on campus I was able to consult with an advisor and use the Sigi online technology to help narrow potential occupations that interest me that I had never considered. This program truly helped and now I have finally declared an international studies major."

SIGI3 integrates self-assessment with in-depth and up-to-date career information that is easy to use and provides students and adults a realistic view of the best educational and career options for future success.

Saving users money, time and energy, SIGI3 technology takes the guesswork and frustration out of career and educational planning by providing an easy step-by-step process. It even saves user information for future use.

"Sigi3 is a convenient way for students to confirm their career choice or begin exploring careers and majors," said Senior Assistant Director Theresa Mickelwait, of the Stuckert Career Center. "The technology interface is simple to use and the surveys are brief so students can get results fast."

Based on four different surveys, values, interests, personality and skills, the program helps each user examine key motivators and matches their personal results to educational and career pathways.

If results from the evaluations don’t sound appealing to the user, a combo search is available to let students fine-tune their job search and compare selected job choices side by side. Current wage and employment information accompany results, simply displaying them for optimal assistance.

Students can also view occupations according to their major while determining education and training requirements for each.

Of course, no job search software would be complete without resume basics and interviewing skills to help users jumpstart their perfect career, and SIGI3 is no exception.
