"Opportunities for Academic Excellence" will show students some of the ways in which they can maximize their undergraduate experience, thereby enhancing options available to them upon graduation. The event will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, in Room 200 of the Funkhouser building. Free pizza will be provided. Seating is limited, so a free registration is required.
Open to first year students with a 3.5 GPA or above, "Opportunities for Academic Excellence" will help students learn more about the following programs:
- Chellgren Student Fellows Program
- Office of Undergraduate Research
- Education Abroad
- Office of External Scholarships
- Gaines Center for the Humanities
These special opportunities help undergraduates attain levels of accomplishment that will enable them to compete successfully for prestigious awards, such as the Rhodes, Marshall, Truman and Goldwater scholarships, as well as gain admission into the very best graduate and professional programs.
One of the biggest opportunities offered by the Chellgren Center is the Chellgren Student Fellows Program, which provides students with experiences that go beyond the classroom. Open to incoming sophomores, the program cultivates extraordinary academic achievement among some of UK's best students. Outstanding faculty from across campus serve as individual mentors for the Fellows.
