Sullenberger to Speak at UK Sanders-Brown Center on Aging Foundation's Annual Dinner
LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 27, 2012) – Heroic US Airways pilot Capt. Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger will headline the 26th Annual UK Sanders-Brown Center on Aging Foundation Dinner set for Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at the Lexington Convention Center Bluegrass Ballroom. All proceeds from the dinner will go to support research, education/outreach and clinical programs at the UK Sanders-Brown Center on Aging (SBCoA).
"Sanders Brown Center of Aging is dedicated to keeping great minds great through the center's work in innovative and outstanding brain research," said Mollie Jameson, foundation board member and 2012 Annual Dinner co-chair. "We are excited to announce that this year's event will honor the great mind of Capt. Chesley B. Sullenberger, a true American hero."
Each year, the dinner hosts a guest speaker who is either an example of successful aging or who has a personal connection to Alzheimer’s and age-related diseases. Previous guest speakers have included such well-known figures as Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, John Wooden, Barbara Bush, Colin Powell, John Glenn, Bob Dole, Art Linkletter, Willard Scott, Lauren Bacall, Andy Rooney, Hugh Downs, Newt Gingrich, Ed McMahon, Dr. Pearse Lyons and James W. Host.
Capt. Sullenberger, best known for his heroic actions in piloting a US Airways jetliner to a safe emergency landing on the icy Hudson River, is a focused, unflappable and deliberate leader. His sound decision-making ability and strong personal commitment to improving an industry have helped him to emerge as a model by which others measure success.
He is the founder of Safety Reliability Methods, a consulting company dedicated to management, safety and performance. He also serves as an aviation and safety expert for CBS News, and is the author of two books, "Highest Duty: My Search for What Really Matters" (2009) and "Making a Difference: Stories of Vision and Courage from America's Leaders" (2012).

The UK Sanders-Brown Center on Aging has been conducting research on Alzheimer’s disease, stroke and other aging-related concerns for more than 30 years. Through a gift from the Eleanor and John Y. Brown Jr. Foundation and a matching grant from the Commonwealth of Kentucky, the Sanders-Brown Center on Aging opened in 1979 and is one of 10 original National Institutes of Health-funded Alzheimer’s Disease Research Centers. Today, the center is an internationally prestigious research center.
