Tap Master Savion Glover to Perform at Singletary

Published: Nov 12, 2013

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 12, 2013) —The University of Kentucky’s Singletary Center for the Arts will welcome back Tony Award-winning performer and choreographer Savion Glover to campus in an exclusive Kentucky performance of "STePz." Glover will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Singletary Center Concert Hall.

Glover began on Broadway at age 12 in "The Tap Dance Kid" and his stardom skyrocketed with his Tony award-winning choreography for the hit, "Bring in Da Noise, Bring in Da Funk." Glover went on to become the youngest performer nominated for a Tony award for his work in "Black and Blue." The entertainer, who also spent five years as a regular on "Sesame Street," has performed on prestigious stages at the Lincoln Center, Moulin Rouge and Carnegie Hall. Glover's popularity continues to grow especially after working on the animated "Happy Feet" films, in which he portrayed the movement of the tone-deaf penguin Mumble, voiced by Elijah Wood.

"STePz" is yet another exuberant celebration of tap dance to sound and sound to dance. In this dance production, Glover and his ensemble of dancers take tap dance to new heights and levels while fusing traditional music selections of the past with his self-proclaimed tap style and energy of the future.

Tickets for "STePz" range from $30 to $40. Group and student rates are also available. To purchase tickets contact the Singletary Center ticket office at (859) 257-4929, visit online at www.scfatickets.com, or in person at the box office.

A part of the UK College of Fine Arts, the Singletary Center for the Arts presents and hosts around 400 artistic, cultural and educational events annually for the university community, Lexington community and the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
