LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 24, 2014) — Now in its 25th year, "Taste of Our World" is one of the most popular events that takes place during the University of Kentucky's Cultural Diversity Festival.  This culinary extravaganza will kick off the month-long celebration with cuisine from around the world from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26,  in the Student Center Grand Ballroom. 
 
Price of admission is $5 for all you care to eat. Cash or Flex dollars are accepted.

 

Cuisine from Africa, Asia, Europe, Middle East/Mediterranean, North America, and South America will be available in booths staffed by volunteers from the university community.

 

Students: be sure to arrive early, as 250 navy blue long-sleeved T-shirts will be given away on a first-come-first-served basis.  Students can also enter a drawing for an iPad and a Beats headphone; the winners will be announced Tuesday, April 1.

 

“Going to the Taste of the Our World last year was eye opening,” said Jessica Neiser, a senior in School of Interiors. “I tried a variety of foods that I normally would be hesitant to try.  Now, I love European cuisine!” 

 

During the Taste of Our World celebration, the festival committee members host a Ten Thousand Villages sale of jewelry, home decor and gifts. As one of the world’s oldest and largest fair trade organizations, Ten Thousand Villages builds long-term relationships with artisans that are based on mutual understanding and respect. Fair trade enables artisans to earn a fair wage. Purchases from Ten Thousand Villages support artisans from around the world who receive a fair wage. Taste of Our World is part of the Cultural Diversity Festival which promotes cultural awareness to the UK campus and Lexington community. The festival is devoted to highlighting the wealth of diversity represented at UK and strives to engage all students, faculty and staff, as well as the Lexington community, through fostering dialogue, encouraging new experiences and promoting unity.
