Tech Help and Media Depot Services Available to Students

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 30, 2014) — This past fall, thousands of students visited the Media Depot @ the Hub and used Tech Help @ The Hub for technology assistance. Both of these services, offered by University of Kentucky Analytics and Technologies (UKAT), are available to students in the basement of the William T. Young Library.

The Media Depot provides access to recording equipment and space, editing stations with specialized multimedia software, and technical support for students’ development of their academic media projects.

Funded by the Student Technology Fee, the Media Depot is a collaboration between UKAT and UK Libraries. Additional information about the Media Depot may be found at www.uky.edu/mediadepot. Online tutorials and entertaining videos are available for viewing at www.youtube.com/ukmediadepot .

Student feedback indicates the Media Depot is a valuable resource, with knowledgeable student employees.

"Staff was very experienced and helpful," one student reported. "I made my video in about four hours one evening with their help. Excellent resource that I wish I would have found sooner."

Tech Help @ the Hub provides one-on-one technology assistance in the Cisco computer lab.  Staffed with technology experts, Tech Help @ the Hub is there to answer questions about account activation, password reset, virus protection, software downloads and more. During the spring semester, Tech Help @ the Hub will offer assistance from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.  For more information about “Tech Help at the Hub” visit http://www.uky.edu/ukit/help/walkins.

Mobile apps and online resources are also available to aid students during the spring semester at UK.  The myUK app, available for iPhone, iPod and Android, provides a detailed, interactive campus map, course catalog and directory. Users can view class information, register for classes, check Plus Account balances and recent transactions, and make account payments.

UKMobile provides other valuable features, including access to the library catalog, UK news from UKNow, and Wildcats news and scores from UK Athletics.  While the myUK app requires LinkBlue login credentials, the UKMobile app does not. Detailed information about the features of Mobile Apps at UK is available at www.uky.edu/ukit/ukmobile.
