Theta Chi Presents 'Shake the Stress Week'

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 23, 2014) — The Zeta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity at the University of Kentucky is presenting its first “Shake the Stress Week” April 21–25 benefitting the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) strives to create a community that supports people living with mental illness. NAMI is the nations largest “grassroots” mental heath organization “dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness.” They fight for more access to services, treatment and support for mental health.

Today's event is a dunk tank with UK’s Interfraternity Council on the Phi Sigma Kappa lawn from 4-6 p.m. Thursday will be “Pie a Chi,” where students can pie Theta Chi brothers in the face. It will be located on the Phi Sigma Kappa lawn from 4-6 p.m. On Friday, a 0.05K, a 164-foot dash with prizes and pizza afterward will take place on the William T. Young Library walkway from 4-6 p.m.

This philanthropy is part of Theta Chi’s Sacred Purpose Movement. Sacred Purpose launched this past January and is an idea focusing on Theta Chi’s motto of “an assisting hand.” Sacred purpose was founded as a result of an alcohol related death at a Theta Chi chapter in California. As part of this mission of caring for one another, the fraternity's goal is to raise awareness of the dangers of alcohol, drug and mental health issues among college students. Clayton Abernathy, vice president of health and safety, is working to spread Sacred Purpose to not only faternity members, but also all members of the University of Kentucky community.
