Traditions T Has a New Design

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 24, 2012) — Nathan Allen, a marketing and finance major from Louisville, was recently named winner of the 2012-13 Traditions T design contest. Allen’s winning T-shirt design was unveiled last week during Big Blue U at Commonwealth Stadium. For his winning design, Allen received a $500 cash prize and five Traditions T-shirts.

“I wanted to see how my design skills stacked up against others,” he said. “I also hope to get into either an internship with Patagonia or North Face in the future with a marketing, design or product development focus and winning this competition would be a solid highlight on my resume.”

Allen also hopes his design reflects the importance of UK to Kentucky.

“I wanted to capture in a somewhat simple design all the University of Kentucky is and how it influences the state of Kentucky as a whole. That is why I incorporated the pieces of UK into the state shape. The saying on the back just combines the pride we feel for our sports teams and university.”

The Traditions T is sponsored by the UK Alumni Association and was established in 2007 to unite the UK student body in celebrating what it means to be a Wildcat. Artwork is student-designed, and UK students vote each spring semester to determine the winning design.

All UK students, alumni and the general public will be able to purchase the 2012-13 Traditions T at the UK Bookstore or the UK Team Shop, including at UK home football games during this academic year.
