Treat Your Valentine to Two Popular Concerts From UK Choirs
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 10, 2012) − Celebrate Valentine’s Day with two popular University of Kentucky Choirs’ events. First up, acoUstiKats and Paws and Listen will present "Paws and Kats After Dark" at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, at Worsham Theater in the UK Student Center. Then the UK Choristers invite audiences of all ages to its fourth annual "A Night on Broadway" on Feb. 17 and 18, at the Frank H. Harris Grand Ballroom in the Student Center. Both events will feature food and drinks from UK Catering Services.
"After Dark" showcases the talents of UK's celebrated a cappella groups. Featuring the all-male acoUstiKats and all-women Paws and Listen, the event offers a unique Valentine’s Day celebration for all ages and includes a post-show dessert reception courtesy of UK Catering Services and the UK Student Center Director’s Office.
Co-sponsored by the UK Student Chapter of American Choral Director’s Association, tickets for "After Dark" are $10 for adults and $5 for students.
"A Night on Broadway" is a fun time for the whole family boasting a show, food and drinks. Hors d'oeuvres will be served at 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 17 and 18, and the performance will follow at 7 p.m. The menu includes mock champagne cocktails, bruchetta assorti, shrimp with saffron aiolia, a fruit display, gourmet cheeses and crackers, vegetable crudités with dill-chive crème, spinach-artichoke-parmesan dip with pita chips, antipasti platter with crostini, Sicilian meatballs, and dessert samplers featuring cream puffs, macaroons, cannoli, bourbon balls, lollipop truffles and tuxedo-dressed strawberries.
The "A Night on Broadway" concert features the UK Choristers, the oldest performing organization on campus, and is directed by Brock Terry and choreographed by Diana Evans Pulliam, of the Diana Evans School of Dance. This year's concert will include works by musical legends Jerry Herman, the Gershwin brothers, Stephen Sondheim, Leonard Bernstein, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Luther Vandross and many others.
"Directing 'A Night on Broadway' is in every sense an absolute pleasure for me," says Terry, a doctoral candidate at UK. "Each year we strive to make the performance bigger and better than the year before. For me, it's about the music."
Tickets for "A Night on Broadway" are $25 for adults, $15 for UK faculty/staff and senior citizens, and $10 for UK students and children. VIP tickets are available for $35 and include preferred seating and reserved parking.

The acoUstiKats is a select a cappella ensemble of 16 voices from the UK Men’s Chorus. They perform numerous concerts each semester for university, church and community functions, as well as Men’s Chorus concerts. Specializing in doo-wop and a cappella pop styles, the group has recorded two CDs and is one of the university’s most visible ensembles. The acoUstiKats have performed at dozens of prestigious events on campus and throughout the state of Kentucky.
Paws and Listen is an a cappella singing group of 16 women auditioned from the UK Women's Choir. The ensemble performs pop music as well as a mix of doo-wop, vocal jazz and show tunes and is coached by undergraduate music education majors under Lori Hetzel, associate director of choirs/choral music education. Highly esteemed both on and off campus, Paws and Listen performs at numerous prestigious events throughout the year and is often featured at high profile events at the home of the UK President.
UK Choristers is comprised of underclassmen and represents a wide variety of majors at the university. The group specializes in choral repertoire of all periods and styles, including musical theatre.
Part of the UK Choirs, the acoUstiKats, Paws and Listen and UK Choristers are housed at the UK School of Music in the UK College of Fine Arts.
