UK Ag Helps Heal Flight 93 Site

Today our nation pauses to remember a tragic day in our history – Sept. 11, 2001. This past spring, volunteers from the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture lent their support and knowledge to the highlands of southwestern Pennsylvania, where the land was scarred by the crash of United Flight 93. Their efforts focused on restoring the land after surface mining and the plane crash, which went down in the defense of a terrorist attack against the U.S. Capitol. Our students and alumni grew hundreds of American and hybrid chestnuts that were planted at the memorial and our UK faculty members have conducted research over the years to learn how to successfully grow trees on reclaimed surface mines. The College of Agriculture joined 150 volunteers to try to help improve the Flight 93 National Memorial. Read about their experience here: http://uknow.uky.edu/content/heal-land-heal-nation
