UK Appreciation Day Celebrating Faculty, Staff is This Thursday

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 23, 2016) — University of Kentucky Appreciation Day (UKAD) is a time to express thanks for the UK faculty and staff's hard work and dedication to the university. This year’s event will be held Thursday, May 26, with President Eli Capilouto joining the celebration.

Activities will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Seaton Center Gymnasium and Pieratt Field (corner of Cooper and University Drive), located at 1210 University Dr.

"The success we enjoy as an institution is made possible because of the UK family’s long-term dedication to our mission and vision,” President Eli Capilouto said. “UK Appreciation Day is an opportunity to thank them for their hard work, and we hope everyone will enjoy the event.”

This event is for the entire UK community. The UKAD Commission understands many are responsible for patient care that will prevent their attendance, however it encourages all supervisors across campus to adjust staff schedules accordingly without requiring leave to be utilized.

All activities are FREE and include:

• Lunch

• UK Department and Vendor Exhibit Fair

• Music

• Photo Booth

• Caricatures

• Voting Booths for the staff representative for the UK Board of Trustees and the UK Women’s Forum elections

• UK T-shirt Giveaway

Group T-shirt pick-up is reserved for employees who cannot attend only. Department pick-up time will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the loading dock entrance to the gym.

Bus Routes and Parking Information

The following areas will be available for free Appreciation Day parking: Seaton Center loading/service area, Complex Drive, the Sports Center Drive lots, the Sports Center Garage (PS #7), the Commonwealth Stadium Red Lot and the Commonwealth Stadium Green Lot. The areas listed above will not be controlled for permits on Thursday, May 26.

UK Parking and Transportation is operating four buses specifically for those attending UKAD. The buses will operate from 10:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. Two of the buses will be servicing the southern side of campus and two others will be servicing the northern portion.

Northern Loop

• 1st Stop: Scovell Hall

• 2nd Stop: Administration Drive

• 3rd Stop: UK HealthCare Good Samaritan Hospital

• 4th Stop: Rose Street at Columbia Avenue

• 5th Stop: Complex Drive

 

Southern Loop

• 1st Stop: UK A.B. Chandler Hospital flagpole

•  2nd Stop: Complex Drive

• 3rd Stop: Ag North

UK Appreciation Day attendees are advised not to utilize the Summer Route, as it will not provide direct service to Appreciation Day.

Campus buses can be tracked in real time using the TransLoc Rider app on iPhone and Android devices or at http://uky.transloc.com/, allowing for users to plan for delays caused by traffic, accidents or inclement weather.
