UK Board Accepts Gifts, Pledges

LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 8, 2010) − The University of Kentucky Board of Trustees today accepted nearly $1.5 million in gifts and pledges from three contributors.

Alliance Resource Partners and Alliance Holdings GP of Tulsa, Okla., pledged $1.2 million to create the Alliance Coal Chair in Mining Engineering in the College of Engineering.

The board accepted a $10,000 gift from the estate of Joanne I. Bell to create and endow the Joanne I. Bell Discretionary Quasi-endowment in the College of Social Work. Bell was an associate professor in the college for 25 years.

The Don Jacobs Charitable Foundation provided a gift of $240,000 to create and endow the Division of Urology Leadership Endowment for Resident Research and Education in the Division of Urology in the College of Medicine. The gift, which will be submitted for matching funds from Kentucky's Endowment Match Program, will support urology resident training.
