UK Chandler Hospital to Host Fall Music Series

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 5, 2012) - Music will fill the air in the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital this fall as UK HealthCare and the UK School of Music team up for a series of performances titled "Tuesdays at Noon."

Each of these events will take place in the Pavilion A auditorium. The concerts will consist of 35 to 40 minutes of music and conclude with a meet-and-greet with the musicians. The performances will be available for broadcast throughout the hospital in an effort to build new audiences and support for the School of Music.

The series kicks off Tuesday, Oct. 2 with "Lunch at the Opera," featuring Tedrin Blair Lindsay and students from the UK Opera Theatre.

Other events include:

  • Tuesday, Oct. 9 - "A Different Shade of Blue," new compositions by professor Raleigh Dailey with Miles Osland, saxophone, and Chase Hawkins, trumpet.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 16 - "Fresh Aires," a capella vitality of Paws and Listen (performance will be on Pavilion A main stairway)
  • Tuesday, Oct. 23 - "Art and Healing," with professors Benjamin Karp and Ruth Adams
  • Tuesday, Oct. 30 - "Conversations in the Winds," with the UK McCracken Faculty Wind Quartet
  • Tuesday, Nov. 13 - "Old Wine in New Bottles," with soprano Elizabeth Arnold and Dieter Hennings, lute
  • Tuesday, Nov. 27 - "Heartbeat of the World," with James Campbell and the UK Percussion Ensemble
  • Tuesday, Dec. 4 -  "The Glorious Sounds of Brass at the Holidays,"     with the UK Faculty Brass Quintet.

UK Chandler Hospital has three other musical events scheduled this fall, with more expected to be added. The events currently scheduled are:

  • Sunday, Sept. 9 -  "Pinocchio"  by the UK Opera Theatre, the Schmidt Opera Outreach Program and the Lexington Opera Society. Show begins at 2 p.m.
  • Sunday, Oct. 26 - Musical Institute of Lexington Halloween Recital (students ages 6-16, piano and strings). Time TBD.
  • Sunday, Nov. 11 - Central Kentucky Youth Orchestra Time TBD.

All performances are free and open to the public. Parking is available in the UK HealthCare parking garage, located at the corner of South Limestone and Transcript Avenue.
