UK Conference to Explore 'Building a Culture of Health' Through Communication

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 12, 2016) Health communication researchers, practitioners and students from around the world will come together April 14-16 to explore "Building a Culture of Health" at the Kentucky Conference on Health Communication (KCHC) in Lexington.

The conference, hosted by the University of Kentucky Department of Communication, is an internationally recognized venue for health communication research and practice with a goal to advance understanding of behavioral and communication science in health promotion and disease prevention. It will be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Lexington.

“It is a real privilege to host KCHC," said Nancy Harrington, professor and associate dean for research in the UK College of Communication and Information. "The conference has come to be known as the premier conference in health communication. It attracts top health communication scholars and students from around the world, and it gives them the opportunity to learn about the latest research in communication strategies to promote health and prevent disease. Plus, it’s a fantastic networking opportunity."

"We’re grateful for support from UK’s vice president for research and the National Institutes of Health that helps us to offer the conference,” she said.

In its 14th year, the conference will feature Alonzo L. Plough, vice president of research-evaluation-learning and chief science officer of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, as its keynote speaker. Plough will give a talk titled, "Culture of Health: Achieving a Shared Understanding of Equity and Improved Well-Being."

Other highlights of the conference include sessions on interpersonal communication and health; designing effective messages to popularize a culture of health; technology and aging; and more. The conference will also feature a research collaboration open house and poster presentations on the latest health communication research.
