UK Men’s Chorus, acoUstiKats Take Center Stage in Fall Extravaganza
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 6, 2013) — The University of Kentucky’s nationally renowned, 80-voice Men’s Chorus returns to the stage this weekend with one of the university's most popular concerts, the seventh annual Men's Chorus Fall Extravaganza. The concert, which also features UK's beloved a cappella group the acoUstiKats, begins 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, at the Singletary Center for the Arts Recital Hall.
This year’s all-male voices concert features the UK Men's Chorus program for National Collegiate Choral Organization (NCCO) national conference held Oct. 31, in Charleston, S.C. UK Men’s Chorus was one of only two collegiate male choruses chosen throughout the U.S. to perform at the conference.
Under the direction of Jefferson Johnson, the UK Men’s Chorus has been making national news as one of the elite college choirs in the nation. In the last seven years, they have been selected to perform at several national conventions, including the Music Educators National Conference in Salt Lake City, the NCCO in San Antonio, and most notably the American Choral Directors Association national convention in Chicago.
Joining the UK Men's Chorus in concert at the Fall Extravaganza is the acoUstiKats. Johnson formed the acoUstiKats in 1993 during his first semester at UK School of Music in the UK College of Fine Arts. Each year, the ensemble of 12 talented young men brings their distinctive sounds to events all across the Commonwealth. As part of the UK Men’s Chorus, this group serves to promote and encourage male singing of all ages. Most recently the group took home Best Overall Ensemble Award and Best Choreography Award at Voices in Harmony.
