UK Ready for the Instagram Spotlight

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 29, 2012) — Pictures are meant to be taken and shared with the world and now there's an app for that. With all the buzz surrounding the popular social media photo sharing application Instagram, the University of Kentucky is officially launching its own Instagram profile, @universityofky. In celebration of the launch, UK will present a monthly contest throughout the fall and spring semesters.

The UK Instagram account will showcase pictures of campus, students, and all things Big Blue Nation. The account will also be participating in Throwback Thursday in honor of the university's sesquicentennial by sharing photos from UK's storied past and marking them with the hashtag #UK150.

In celebration of the account's November launch, UK's Instagram profile will present its first ever Instagram contest. Prizes? Limited edition NCAA Championship T-shirts.

Participating in the Instagram contest is easy. First, if you already have an Instagram profile, follow @universityofky on Instagram. If not, download Instagram to your smart phone or tablet computer, and create a free account. Second, each month watch UK's feed for a specific picture with a clue in the description. Figure out the clue and then find the landmark in question for a prize voucher with directions on how to claim your T-shirt. It's that simple.

Participants will need an Instagram or Twitter account to be able to follow @universityofky to receive the clues. Instagram is a free photo sharing social media app that allows users to take a picture, choose filters to transform its look, and then post to Instagram and share with other social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr.
