UK Remembers Those We Lost

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 16, 2013) — Sometimes the University of Kentucky is referred to as a campus community. In fact, if UK’s employees and students were incorporated as a town separate from the surrounding city of Lexington, they would count as the state’s fifth largest city, edging out Covington by a few hundred (approximately 41,000 to 40,640).

Like any other community, the university is vulnerable to suffering the loss of its citizens.

Since the spring of 2010, the campus has honored those that UK has lost with a simple yet touching memorial service called UK Remembers. Honoring staff, faculty, retirees, students and alumni who have died since the previous spring, UK Remembers 2013 will be held from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, on the North Lawn, beside the Main Building.

UK staff member Carl Nathe will moderate the event. Brenda Gosney will speak for the alumni, Stephen Bilas for the students, Sheila Brothers for the staff, and John Wilson for the faculty. The UK acoUstiKats will perform, and UK President Eli Capilouto will give closing remarks.

In case of rain, the UK Remembers ceremony will be held in the Lexmark Room of the Main Building.

Everyone may attend or add remarks to the UK Remembers’ Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/pages/University-of-Kentucky-Memorial-Page/133871653347274.
