UK Students, Alumni Invited to Public Service Awards Information Session

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 20, 2016) The University of Kentucky Office of Nationally Competitive Awards is offering an information session about scholarships and fellowships for students and recent graduates interested in attending graduate school or pursuing a career in the public service arena. Specifically, this information session will focus on the Truman Scholarship and Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship.

Pat Whitlow, director of the Office of Nationally Competitive Awards, will host this information session at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, in the William T. Young Library, Room B108C, located in the basement.

The Truman Scholarship provides funding to current juniors who are committed to public service studies for graduate school. To date, 13 UK students have received this highly competitive scholarship.

The Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship provides funding to current juniors, seniors, and recent graduates for graduate school. Students must enroll in academic programs related to international affairs, political and economic analysis, administration, management, and science policy.

Part of the Chellgren Center for Undergraduate Excellence within the Division of Student and Academic Life at UK, the Office of Nationally Competitive Awards assists current UK undergraduate and graduate students and recent alumni in applying for external scholarships and fellowships funded by sources (such as a nongovernment foundation or government agency) outside the university. These major awards honor exceptional students across the nation. Students who are interested in these opportunities are encouraged to begin work with the office's director, Pat Whitlow, well in advance of the scholarship deadline.
