UK United Way Campaign in Final Week

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 24, 2011) -- The University of Kentucky’s annual United Way campaign, which runs through Oct. 31, has a campuswide goal for the 2011 campaign of $450,000. 

Ann Smith, CAO, UK HealthCare, and Dan O’Hair, dean of the College of Communications and Information Studies, are chair and co-chair of this year’s campaign. Smith and O’Hair, along with 40 university representatives, make up the UK-United Way Cabinet. Cabinet members met during the summer months to organize the fall campaign. 

Nearly 300 department solicitors have been distributing pledge forms and collecting donations from the university community.

Last year the university campaign contributed more than $428,000 to the United Way of the Bluegrass.

Through donations to United Way Way of the Bluegrass in 2010:

 •1,900 children, from birth to age six, were served in early care programs

•Out-of-school services served 27,000 youth

•Over 42,000 individuals and families received basic need and crisis services

•United Way's 2-1-1 information service received 16,443 phone calls
