Lexington, Ky. (August 21, 2009) The University of Kentucky Women's Forum will help employees master the art of "Living Fully in Lean Times" at the 2009 Women's Forum Conference, Oct. 14. To be held on campus in the Student Center, the all-day conference will feature a variety of opportunities for professional development and personal enrichment.
Panels and speakers will tackle a variety of issues including: achieving balance between work and parenting, de-cluttering your personal space, finding bargains on essential items and providing the best care for pets under tough economic conditions.
UK Human Resources experts will present tips on applying for jobs within the university, as well as information on how UK can help employees in their work and personal lives. Sharon Thompson, food columnist for the Lexington Herald-Leader, will discuss budget-smart recipes, while Gary P. West, author of four books including "Eating Your Way Across Kentucky," will talk about mini-vacations you can plan within the Commonwealth. Ron Werner Wilson, chair of the Department of Family Studies in the UK School of Human and Environmental Sciences and the head of the Bluegrass Healthy Marriage Initiative, will give remarks on keeping family life nurturing and stable.
The luncheon speaker will be Debbie Morris, known as the "fru-gal" to her fans. Morris teaches her readers in the Herald-Leader and on BluegrassMoms.com, as well as on WKYT-TV, how to stretch their dollars by clipping coupons, finding freebies and living smartly.
Participants will be able to take advantage of a presentation on massage, meditation and yoga in the workplace, as well as a seminar titled "It's okay to say no" - something many people need to remember in their busy lives. Additional speakers are still being scheduled, so watch UKNow for updates.
