UK Work-Life Office Hosts Workshop, 'A Day of Rising Strong'

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 2, 2016)  The University of Kentucky Office of Work-Life, within UK Human Resources, is hosting the workshop, “A Day of Rising Strong” from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Sept. 16, at The 90.

This interactive workshop is based on research professor and New York Times best-selling author Brené Brown’s groundbreaking research and book, "Rising Strong." During the workshop, participants will learn positive, proactive tools and strategies to live a more resilient and wholehearted life. They will hear about and discuss what it takes to get back up after failure and learn how owning their stories of disappointment and heartbreak gives them the power to write a daring new ending. This workshop is designed to bring people together and to learn from expert research and one another in a supportive environment.

The workshop will be facilitated by Cindy Reed, licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) and certified facilitator of Brown's methodology and research. In addition to 16 years of experience as a LCSW, Reed was a lead presenter of Brown’s work at the National Association of Social Workers Continuing Education Conference in 2015.

The workshop is open to UK students, faculty and staff who want to develop strategies for making positive changes in their lives. This workshop is also for those who just want to learn more about Brown’s work and concepts within her best-selling book, "Rising Strong." The workshop is free for UK students; $25 for UK staff/faculty and members of the public; and $50 for social workers wanting to receive continuing education credit.
