Venkatesh Named Farish Chair in Urology

LEXINGTON, Ky. (August 25, 2010) — Dr. Ramakrishna Venkatesh has been awarded the William Stamps Farish Endowed Professorship in Urology at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine.  Venkatesh joined the faculty in the Division of Urology, headed by Dr. Stephen E. Strup, as an associate professor in December 2008. Previously, he was on the urology faculty of Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

Venkatesh's main clinical interests include treating complex kidney stones and diseases of the kidney and prostate by minimally invasive techniques, including robotic laparoscopy. He also works with specialists at the Markey Cancer Center to provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary treatment for patients with kidney or prostate cancer.     


His research interests include studying ureteral physiology and the effects of interventions (medications and devices) on ureteral activity. He developed a novel method of studying ureteral activity using a GMR magnetic sensor. His team, including his fellows, has won international awards for their translational research work. He also is interested in evaluating newer minimally invasive surgical tools and techniques.
