'Waiting for Superman' Showing Hosted by SAB

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 2, 2011) – A special presentation of the award-winning documentary, "Waiting for Superman,"  will be shown at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, in the Student Center Worsham Theater. This event is free and is sponsored by the Student Activities Board.

"Waiting for Superman" follows the saga of several students navigating their way through the failing American public schools system. Every day in America, children go off to schools with virtually no chance of learning. Some schools in certain districts produce more drop outs than graduates. "Waiting for Superman" answers the question of why America’s education system has not improved and why America continually ranks below several other developed nations in areas such as math and science. The director of "An Inconvenient Truth," Davis Guggenheim, tells the stories of students and their families and the educators trying to improve the school system.

“The truth is that a lot of kids have dreams of becoming doctors and lawyers but the school systems are failing them. 'Waiting for Superman' will not only benefit students who want to go into an education profession but anyone who wants to learn about America’s school system,” said Teran Sundy, committee chair of SAB Multicultural Affairs Committee.

The Student Activities Board brings more than 100 entertaining, educational and enriching programs that are reflective of contemporary issues and trends to the University of Kentucky annually.  These programs are designed to enhance the college experience for students, faculty, staff and the greater Lexington community.
