Below is a statement from President Capilouto, which was sent to the UK community on Thursday, Oct. 18.
Colleagues and Students,
I’ve called a special meeting of the University Senate for this Monday, October 22, at 3 p.m. in Center Theater, located in the Student Center. The agenda for this meeting as posted on the University Senate’s website is to address the Senate Council memo of October 4, 2012, and the University Senate resolution of October 8, 2012.
There is one topic:
Our future.
I want to update our faculty leadership – and the campus – on our progress over the last year, address the understandable concerns and questions that emerge when we undertake necessary change, and discuss the shared path we must take in the months and years ahead as we continue to strive to reach our ambitions as an institution that serves this Commonwealth.
As importantly, I want to provide ample time for questions and answers. The change we are undertaking is important. As important, though, is the process of continuous dialogue and consultation with all constituencies served by this University.
As this meeting is of the University Senate and our faculty leadership, general seating will be limited. However, because this is a discussion about those things impacting our entire institution, there will be additional seating and viewing in Room 230 of the Student Center Addition. We will be live-streaming this event, beginning at 3 p.m. on Monday, on UKnow: http://uknow.uky.edu/.
Questions can be submitted electronically to my e-mail account at pres@uky.edu or via twitter at @ukypres. I will follow up and provide answers to any questions that are not addressed during the meeting. We also will provide access to the presentation that I will be giving the University Senate on my web site at http://www.uky.edu/president.
Presentations from last weekend’s Board of Trustees retreat also are now available on the Board’s website at http://www.uky.edu/Trustees/agenda/retreats/oct2012/welcome.html.
Thanks so much for all that each of you is doing to move this singular institution forward during challenging, but exciting, times. I look forward to the continued dialogue about our future on Monday.
Eli Capilouto
President
