Weaver Receives National Nursing Excellence Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 28, 2011) − Diana J. Weaver, senior nursing advisor at UK HealthCare has been selected to receive the prestigious Daniel J. Pesut Spirit of Renewal Award for Nursing Excellence by the Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) Honor Society of Nursing. She will receive the award during the STTI Biennial Convention in Grapevine, Texas, in October.
 

The award recognizes a nurse leader who exemplifies purposeful reflection in practice, mindful understanding of human interrelationships and displays an appreciative, futuristic vision for the practice of nursing. Only one nurse leader is bestowed the prestigious Spirit of Renewal Award by Sigma Theta Tau biennially.
 

“I am honored and humbled to have been selected as the recipient of this award," Weaver said. "Growing nurse leaders is my professional passion, and I am so gratified when those with whom I work make significant contributions to the profession and excel in every sense of the word.”
 

Weaver assumed the part-time position of senior nursing advisor at UK HealthCare in 2008. Her responsibilities include executive coaching and mentoring, nurse leader development, strategic and leadership succession planning, and advising on clinical care models. Weaver has also held numerous nursing administrative positions at UK HealthCare and other institutions for more than 50 years, including chief nursing officer at Yale-New Haven Hospital and a faculty appointment at Yale School of Nursing.
 

Weaver has served in many leadership positions including president of Delta Psi Chapter, Sigma Theta Tau (1984-1985); president, Kentucky Organization of Nurse Executives (1986-1987); chair of the Nursing Council, University Healthcare Consortium (1990-1992); and president, American Organization of Nurse Executives (1994-1995).
 

Additionally, she has received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Indiana University School of Nursing and the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Ball State University. Selected examples of Weaver's community work include: YWCA Lexington, board of directors (1988-1991); Hill Health Corporation Board of Directors, New Haven, Conn. (1994-1997); Woodford Healthcare Inc., president (1999-2002) and trustee, Mary Hitchcock Hospital and Dartmouth Clinic (2002-2009); and officer of Woodford Health Foundation (2003-present).
