This Week With UK SAB

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 11, 2011) - There’s a lot going on this week with UK's Student Activities Board including The Final Word featuring speaker Dr. Mark Williams, Cheap Seats, Sidewalk Music Series, the Writers Series and Disney Mania, a Disney movie marathon.

This week’s Final Word featured Dr. Mark Williams. He discussed the importance of sustainable agriculture and the efforts this university is making to encourage community supported agriculture.

If you need a break from studying, Cheap Seats is on Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 11 and 12, at 8 p.m. at Worsham Theatre in the Student Center. It’s a great opportunity to view blockbusters on the big screen one more time for only $1. The movie showing will be "Transformers: Dark of the Moon."

Brighten up a dreary walk to class with a free concert at the Sidewalk Music Series. This week is a Hip Hop Showcase featuring Devine Carama, Emanuel Webb and J. Hatchett. The concert will be from 1 to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13, near K-Lair and Dining Services Administration Office side lawn. The rain location will be the Cats Den.

Don’t miss the Writers Series at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, in the Student Center Small Ballroom. This series, a memorial to author James Baker Hall who was a UK faculty member, will feature writers who have been raised or heavily influenced by living in Kentucky.

On Saturday, bring back your childhood by watching Disney movies "Aladdin," "Beauty and the Beast" and finishing off with "The Lion King." Disney Mania is Saturday, Oct. 15, in the William T. Young Library auditorium beginning at 2 p.m. Drinks and snacks will be provided.

The Student Activities Board brings more than 100 entertaining, educational and enriching programs that are reflective of contemporary issues and trends to the University of Kentucky annually. These programs are designed to enhance the college experience for students, faculty, staff and the greater Lexington community.
