Wheeler Graduates from Global Nursing Leadership Institute

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 30, 2011) − Kathy Wheeler, assistant professor at the University of Kentucky College of Nursing, was one of 27 distinguished nurse leaders from across the globe to graduate from the International Council of Nurses (ICN) Global Nursing Leadership Institute (GNLI).

The nurses spent an intense, in-residence, week-long study followed by a special graduation ceremony. Established in 2009, the GNLI offers an advanced leadership program for nurses in senior and executive level positions in developed and developing countries.

"ICN is immensely appreciative of the generous support from the Burdett Trust for Nursing and the Pfizer Medical External Affairs," said David Benton, ICN's chief executive officer. "Significantly, this support has enabled scholarships for 16 GNLI graduates this year alone. Investing in nursing and the strengthening of senior nurse leaders has never been more important for the health of populations everywhere."

The ICN is a federation of more than 130 national nurse associations representing the millions of nurses worldwide. Operated by nurses and leading nursing internationally, ICN works to ensure quality care for all and sound health policies globally.
