Women's Leadership Retreat Seeks to EMPOWER

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 28, 2014) — The Leadership Exchange in the Office of Student Involvement teams up with the Violence Intervention and Prevention Center to offer the second annual EMPOWER: Women’s Leadership Retreat. This retreat will give students the opportunity to discover their strengths and values, refine leadership skills, complete a high ropes course challenge, network with other leaders and be empowered as a woman.

EMPOWER will be held Friday, Sept. 19, through Sunday, Sept. 21. This retreat is open to any UK student who identifies as female. All classifications, majors and levels of leadership are welcomed. EMPOWER also features monthly sessions after the retreat to continue to build relationships with other leaders and develop your personal leadership style. Participants also have an opportunity to serve as student facilitators for the retreat the following year.

Rachel Dixon, an EMPOWER 2014 student facilitator/past participant said “This retreat was definitely one of the highlights of my year thus far.” Cailin Harris, another student facilitator for the retreat this year, as well as a past participant, said “I would recommend this retreat to absolutely any girl who is ready to step out of her comfort zone and get real for a minute.”

The application is available on the EMPOWER website. There is a $15 refundable application fee to hold a spot. If you are not selected, the fee will be returned to you. If you are selected, you will receive your money at the end of the retreat. Please submit your application and turn in your $15 deposit to the Student Center Ticket Office, second floor, Student Center.
