WUKY Airs Final 'Perspectives' With President Todd

LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 23, 2011) — University of Kentucky President Lee T. Todd Jr. has hosted  "Perspectives," a program on UK's NPR station, WUKY, for several years, but he becomes the guest on the most recent edition of the show to air Friday, June 24.

WUKY General Manager Tom Godell talked to Todd, in a pre-recorded interview, about his tenure as the university's 11th president.  They covered a number of topics, from Top 20 to research, to arts to STEM, to health care to athletics and more.

"It's been an honor to work with Dr. Todd," Godell said. "The depth of his knowledge and his fascination with all aspects of UK made his program a truly wonderful and enlightening experience."

Todd's last appearance on "Perspectives" as UK's president will air on WUKY, 91.3 FM, at 8:51 a.m. and 5:51 p.m. Friday, June 24. The eight-minute segment will include highlights from the full interview. "Perspectives" has aired on WUKY since December 2004 and has highlighted outstanding student, faculty, staff and programs of the university.

WUKY was the first university-owned FM radio station in America, and Kentucky's first public radio station.  It debuted Oct. 17, 1940, as WBKY, operating with only 100 watts. 1989 WBKY changed its call letters to WUKY to better reflect its affiliation with the University of Kentucky.  WUKY now serves Lexington and much of central Kentucky with 100,000 watts, as well as live streaming on the Web. In early 2007, WUKY became the first Lexington radio station to broadcast in HD — high definition, digital radio.
