WUKY And Red Barn Radio Present Free Live Show at UK

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 2, 2012) – Red Barn Radio, in partnership with WUKY, will stream and record it's weekly live radio show Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at the William T. Young Library Auditorium on the University of Kentucky campus.  Laurel River Line will headline the free show. It will begin at 7:30 p.m. and WUKY will begin live streaming at 8 p.m.

"Old-time, Americana, and bluegrass are reaching new and younger audiences every day," said Ed Commons, executive producer of Red Barn Radio.  "By producing a show at UK we have a chance to expose students to the rich musical heritage of Kentucky and show audiences how a live show is produced, and the four young men that make up Laurel River Line are a great fit for the evening."

Laurel River Line combines four-way vocal talent with hard driving mash up of bluegrass, gospel and old-time traditions. A group of passionate bluegrass pickers; they enjoy pickin' bluegrass music anywhere and everywhere.

WUKY, UK's NPR station, was the first university-owned FM radio station in America and Kentucky's first public radio station. WUKY and Red Barn Radio have been partners for the past 11 years, and WUKY broadcasts the syndicated show on Saturday evening each week.

"We are continuously blown away by the level of talent the region has to offer," said Gail Bennett of WUKY. "Red Barn Radio and WUKY's partnership is long standing and one which strives to work on a local level to educate the public and the region of new and rising talent."

Red Barn Radio records its broadcasts every Wednesday evening from Arts Place, at 161 North Mill St. in Lexington. It showcases old-time and bluegrass musicians, both from Kentucky and neighboring states where Kentucky music has settled and flourished.
