Search for New UK Provost Officially Under Way

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 18, 2012) ― The search is officially on for a new provost for the University of Kentucky.  The Provost Search Committee, appointed in October, has secured a search firm after evaluating and interviewing several candidates for that responsibility.  The committee and President Eli Capilouto hired Witt/Kieffer to assist in the national search, and a timeline has been set to name a permanent provost by May 2013.  The provost will begin work July 1, 2013.

Tim Tracy, dean of the UK College of Pharmacy, has been handling the job on an interim basis since Kumble Subbaswamy left the position in March 2012 to become chancellor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

A new website, http://www.uky.edu/ProvostSearch/, is available with information about the search including the timeline, how to contact search committee members, and updates on the process.

The provost is the chief academic officer of the University of Kentucky, overseeing all aspects of its academic programs.  Co-chairs of the Provost Search Committee are Charley Carlson, psychology professor in the College of Arts and Sciences, and Mike Reid, chair of the Department of Physiology in the College of Medicine.

Witt/Kieffer, with offices throughout the U.S., is a leading executive search firm serving higher education, the health care industry, life sciences companies, and not-for-profit community service organizations.
