Lexington, Ky. (April 11, 2022) — The Office of LGBTQ* Resources, housed in the Office for Student Success, is the University of Kentucky's central hub for accessing information, groups and services related to diverse sexual orientations and gender identities. The Resource Center is a campus-wide office that works to make sure that the campus community is a welcoming, safe and supportive place for all students, faculty, staff and alumni.

Its mission focuses on the three core pillars – education, advocacy and community building. With this mission in mind, the office is actively engaged in supporting student organizations, offering professional development opportunities for campus groups, and advocating for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer individuals from many walks of life.

Below are four services and opportunities available to the campus community through the Office of LGBTQ* Resources.

  1. Internships. The undergraduate student programming internship opportunity is a formalized way for students to connect with the Office of LGBTQ* Resources, develop leadership and programming skills, create diverse campus connections and explore issues related to gender and sexual orientation advocacy that impact campus belonging and inclusivity.
  2. ScholarshipsThe Office of LGBTQ* Resources offers students several scholarship opportunities. Applications for scholarships are open annually and are not given on a recurring basis.
  3. Grants. One-time grants are awarded to currently enrolled full-time graduate and professional students to support research and/or professional development related to sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and/or intersectional approaches to identity
  4. SafeZone WorkshopsSafeZone Workshops are 90-minute workshops to equip individuals to be more aware and active allies. This workshop explores LGBTQ* identities, strategies for supporting student experiences and exploring LGBTQ* related campus and community resources.

The campus community can drop by the Dinkle-Mas Suite Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you are a student and would like to stay up to date on information regarding the office and stay in the know on events hosted by the Office of LGBTQ* Resources, register to join the Discord server, a free voice, video and text chat app open to undergraduate, graduate and professional students at UK.

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.

In 2022, UK was ranked by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads” and named a “Diversity Champion” by INSIGHT into Diversity, a testament to our commitment to advance Kentucky and create a community of belonging for everyone. While our mission looks different in many ways than it did in 1865, the vision of service to our Commonwealth and the world remains the same. We are the University for Kentucky.
