UK Muslim Student Group to Host Gala Benefiting Refugee Community

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 22, 2017) The University of Kentucky Muslim Student Association (MSA) will host a gala benefiting the Lexington refugee community 5:30 to 9 p.m. Sunday, April 2, at the Signature Club of Lansdowne in Lexington.

Members of the UK and Lexington communities ages 18 and older are invited to attend. Students can purchase tickets for $20 by emailing president@ukymsa.com or vicepresident@ukymsa.com. Non-student tickets can be purchased here for $40.

Funds raised from the event will be divided equally between Kentucky Refugee Ministries, which provides refugee resettlement services through its offices in Lexington and Louisville, and the the Islamic Society of Central Kentucky Refugee Resettlement Program.

The gala will feature entertainment, a three-course meal and Ustadh AbdelRahman Murphy, a well-known Muslim community leader, will serve as keynote speaker.

"This is an act we hope will provide continued support of substance for our neighbors at a time in which it is needed most," said Hadeel Abdallah, president of the UK MSA chapter. "We expect it to be an amazing event to bring students, faculty and people from the general community all together for a great cause."
