UK Colleges of Arts and Sciences and Fine Arts collaborate for 'A Night of Music and Poetry'
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 13, 2023) — You're invited to A Night of Music and Poetry, organized by Professor Irina Voro of the School of Music in the College of Fine Arts and Senior Lecturer Anna Voskresensky of the Department of Modern and Classical Languages, Literatures, and Cultures in the College of Arts and Sciences. The program will be presented 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, in the Niles Gallery of the Lucille C. Little Fine Arts Library. This event is free and open to the public.
Sixteen students from the Department of Modern and Classical Languages, Literature and Cultures will recite poetry in Russian and English, followed by 16 students from the School of Music performing piano ensemble compositions. This event features a diverse range of authors and composers and combines music and language to engage the audience in the experience of beauty through works of literature and music.
Professor Voro encourages her piano students to reach beyond the limitations of sheet music and inspires them to tell a story through the sounds they create. Professor Voskresensky actively integrates music into the curriculum in classes such as Russian Singing and Russian Radio to develop in students an appreciation of the music of the language. The concert aims to unite the audience through the poetry of music and the music of poetry.
As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.
In 2022, UK was ranked by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads” and named a “Diversity Champion” by INSIGHT into Diversity, a testament to our commitment to advance Kentucky and create a community of belonging for everyone. While our mission looks different in many ways than it did in 1865, the vision of service to our Commonwealth and the world remains the same. We are the University for Kentucky.
