CRVAW and CCTS Launch Collaborative Pilot Program

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 10, 2021) — A new program supported by the University of Kentucky’s Center for Research on Violence Against Women (CRVAW) and Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS) will provide seed funding for research projects that address violence against women.

The CCTS/CRVAW Collaborative Pilot Program was launched this year to support UK faculty research in the areas of intimate partner violence, sexual violence, misconduct or harassment, other forms of interpersonal, family violence, or gun violence that disproportionally impact women, girls or sexual minority populations.

The award will support UK researchers with the resources to compete for externally funded grant awards by providing the financial assistance and study design support for early career investigators to run pilot studies and generate preliminary data to support grant applications or manuscripts.

The new program is aimed at funding translational research with a violence intervention or prevention focus. Because violence often co-occurs with substance use and other threats to mental health, researchers with intervention or prevention projects that focus on these violence-related outcomes are encouraged to apply.

“This collaboration with CCTS has allowed CRVAW to increase our commitment to supporting early career researchers or researchers who are interested in expanding their expertise into studying forms of violence that disproportionately affect women,“ said Ann Coker, Ph.D., interim director of CRVAW and epidemiology professor in the UK College of Medicine’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. 

Awardee(s) will receive up to $50,000 to support their research over 12 months. The award is open to UK faculty eligible to submit and receive externally funded grants. More application information is available here.
