UK Fall Career Fairs are Going Virtual
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 14, 2020) — Next week, the University of Kentucky will be offering students an opportunity to connect with more than 100 employers in the fall semester virtual career fair series. The Engineering, Computer Science and STEM Virtual Career Fair will take place from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, and the Business, Communications, Liberal Arts and All Majors Virtual Career Fair will take place from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23.
Both career fairs will be hosted through UK’s Handshake career management platform. Students are strongly encouraged to register now and sign up in advance for individual and group sessions with participating employers.
The virtual career fairs offer students an important opportunity to network and personally connect with employers at a time period when many companies have cut back on hiring for interns and new graduates. Employers are interested in connecting with students from all academic majors, and they’re eager to share information with students about internships, co-ops and job opportunities, so students from all class years are encouraged to consider attending.
Ray Clere, the director of UK’s Stuckert Career Center says that, “We know that our students are navigating multiple challenges this fall semester resulting from the coronavirus pandemic. We want students to know that these virtual career fairs offer a safe and convenient way to explore and pursue career opportunities.”
UK’s Handshake career management platform is providing a training webinar for students at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, focused on ways that students can get the most from their virtual career fair participation. Handshake also offers a resource site for students on virtual career fair preparation. Students can also connect individually with UK Career Services for drop-in hours and appointments with staff to prepare for the virtual career fairs and receive assistance with other career development needs.
The fall virtual career fairs are a partnership between Engineering Career Development, the Graham Career Management Office in the Gatton College of Business and Economics and the Stuckert Career Center.
