Dive into summer creativity at the UK Fine Arts Institute

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 23, 2024) — The University of Kentucky Fine Arts Institute is excited to kick off their 2024 summer programming for adults in the Central Kentucky area. The Institute is the College of Fine Arts’ community outreach program that offers low cost art classes to adults 18 and older at the School of Art and Visual Studies. They offer courses year round in a wide variety of mediums that appeal to everyone.

This summer, they are offering two six-week sessions that begin May 20 with most classes being held in the evenings from 6-9 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday. A select few workshops are available on Saturdays. All classes meet once per week for the duration of the session.

Pre-registration is required for all classes. Anyone 18 or older is welcome to either begin their creative journey or expand upon their existing skills. Whether you are true novice or a seasoned visual creator, the Institute has something for you. Classes are taught by well-known local artists who are masters of their mediums. Their courses cover various topics such as ceramics, drawing, fiber, painting and photography.

Registration for the summer program opens at noon Wednesday, April 24.

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.

In 2022, UK was ranked by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads” and named a “Diversity Champion” by INSIGHT into Diversity, a testament to our commitment to advance Kentucky and create a community of belonging for everyone. While our mission looks different in many ways than it did in 1865, the vision of service to our Commonwealth and the world remains the same. We are the University for Kentucky.
