Internationally acclaimed jazz artist Emmet Cohen headlines for UK Singletary Center
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 28, 2024) — Emmet Cohen, jazz pianist, composer and viral internet sensation, is set to take the Singletary Center for the Arts Recital Hall Stage at 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3.
Cohen is a multifaceted musician whose artistry emphasizes preserving the legacy of his craft while also bringing a brilliantly fresh dynamic to modern jazz. The winner of the 2019 American Pianists Awards, Cohen frequently headlines Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Village Vanguard and Birdland. He has toured and performed in more than 30 countries and will be performing at the Singletary Center directly after touring in South Korea and Japan.
A versatile collaborator, Cohen has recorded or performed with jazz greats including Ron Carter, Jimmy Cobb, George Coleman, Kurt Elling, Benny Golson, Jimmy Heath, Tootie Heath, Christian McBride and Houston Person. In addition to being the leader of the Emmet Cohen Trio, he is also a performer in the “Tip City” trio as well as music director and pianist for Veronica Smith.
Along with his critical acclaim, Cohen also started his online series “Live from Emmet’s Place,” which has garnered tens of millions of views and united music lovers worldwide. The series was started in 2020 during pandemic lockdowns, taking inspiration from Harlem rent parties to bring people together virtually. The series was pivotal for jazz musicians to continue their work during the pandemic and gave live music lovers a bright light in the midst of stay-at-home mandates.
Cohen will be performing on the Singletary Recital Hall stage in a night of jazz excellence, accompanied by bassist Joey Ranieri on bass and drummer Kyle Poole.
“I am tremendously excited to bring Emmet Cohen to Lexington,” said Matthew Gibson, Singletary Center director. “Cohen maintains a deft balance of technical skill, traditional sensibilities, and creative improvisation; this is going to be an impressive performance for all in attendance.”
General public tickets are $34 for adults and $18 students. Additional processing fees may apply. Tickets can be purchased online, by phone at 859-257-4929 or by visiting the Singotary Center ticket office in person.

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.
In 2022, UK was ranked by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads” and named a “Diversity Champion” by INSIGHT into Diversity, a testament to our commitment to advance Kentucky and create a community of belonging for everyone. While our mission looks different in many ways than it did in 1865, the vision of service to our Commonwealth and the world remains the same. We are the University for Kentucky.
